Hairloss as a concern sounds very common and simple, but the fact is, it’s a big subject in itself and the domain is quite vast. There are qualified professional – Trichologists who specialize in Haircare. This blog is dedicated to inform you about the latest means and methods for combating hairloss , from medications to transplants.
Treatment Options for Hair Loss
Medications Available: Topical minoxidil ( Mintop) and finasteride are the only drugs approved by the FDA to treat pattern baldness (hair loss resulting from hereditary causes). Mintop is a topical solution that is applied by directly rubbing it onto the scalp where hair growth is desired.Finasteride 1mg is the pill that can treat Male pattern hair loss. Like all prescription products, it should be given under a doctor's care.
PRP(platelet-rich plasma) PRP therapy for hair loss is a treatment that involves withdrawing a patient's own blood, processing it so that only the enriched cells (platelet-rich plasma) remain, and injecting it into the scalp. PRP contains essential proteins that stimulate natural hair growth. The treatment can also be combined with hair transplant surgery, microneedling, or medications such as Mintop and Finasteride.
The HASCI method (hair stem cell transplant)
A hair stem cell transplant, also known as the HASCI method, does not remove the entire hair follicle. Instead, several hair stem cells are left in the donor area to stimulate regrowth.
Multiple transplants can be performed in a single donor area.As only a portion of the hair follicle and the stem cells it contains is removed, the remaining and transplanted stem cells stimulate new hair growth in a matter of weeks. The remaining and transplanted hair stem cells generate the same quality hair as the existing hairs. The final result can be seen after a full hair growth cycle of nine months.

A well-known and long-standing method of hair transplantation is the strip method, otherwise known as follicular unit transplantation or FUT. With this technique, a strip of skin and hair is removed from the back of the head, sectioned into grafts, and transplanted in the receptor area. It is Excessive scarring&Painful.
The hair in the donor area is completely sacrificed for the transplantations, making it impossible to reuse.
This method results in excessive scarring in the both donor area and the receptor area because square grafts are transplanted into round holes, causing scar tissue to form. These obvious and unattractive scars are the biggest disadvantage of this method, which also happens to be the most painful.
This technique also results in hair retention of just 70 to 95%, as some of the grafts inevitably fall out or are unsuitable for transplantation. This means hair loss of 5 to 30%. Of course, the end result differs per person.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
A second, more modern technique is Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). This technique extracts entire hair follicles from the donor area one by one and transplants them in the receptor area. FUE results in dozens of small, round scars in the donor area.
A major disadvantage of the FUT and FUE transplant methods is that the extracted follicles are removed entirely, creating an even smaller donor area. Hair transplant methods that use these techniques have a limited number of donor follicles as no regrowth occurs in the donor area after transplantation.
The FUE method results in hair retention of 90 to 96%, as some of the grafts inevitably fall out or are unsuitable for transplantation. This means hair loss of 5 to 10%. Moreover, neither of these methods allow for short hairstyles due to clearly visible scarring.
Mesotherapy for hair growth
Mesotherapy for hair regrowth involves the technique of injecting nutrient rich liquid in the mesoderm of the scalp – the layer under the epidermis which serves as a link between the layer of fats and the tissues of the skin. This is done with the help of a special mesotherapy gun that carries a sterile needle which injects the solution in the scalp.
The basis of the treatment substance that is injected during the therapy depends on the cause for the hair fall experienced. This substance generally contains vitamins, nutrients and other tissue friendly materials. The patients who undergo this treatment experience no or minimal pain and least discomfort.
Likewise there are other procedures like low level laser for hair re-growth , the success rates of all the procedures are limited &varies from person to person.
All said and done, nothing can replace the natural sheen & life of hair, its always best to take good care of your Hair and prevent hairloss by early treatment with Minoxidil and Finasteride.
A lot of us think , one fine day, we will get Hair Transplant done and gain a look as good as before with natural hair, unfortunately its not true and once a person is Hair transplant spiral, he/she will be on a non-returnable path which needs constant interventions and money. Hence it is always advised by doctors to start early with topical medication and delay hairloss .
All the best!!!
